In late-summer 2026, Pioneer Legends coaches and parents will host the inaugural Pioneer Baseball Classic at Alexandria, VA’s Clermont Park; an exciting opportunity for area teams to kick off their forthcoming fall seasons. The PBC also gives players the opportunity to showcase the long ball in its exciting Home Run Derby! With up-to-five games over two days of pool and bracket play, the six squads will showcase incredible baseball skill as they vie for the very first Pioneer Baseball Classic Championship crown!

Located in the heart of Alexandria, VA, Clermont Park – 4100 Franconia Rd, Alexandria, VA 22310 is Pioneer Baseball’s home baseball complex, utilized to host games, large events like Pioneer Day, and of course, the innagural Pioneer Baseball Classic.

Players participating in the Pioneer Baseball Classic are invited to join our exciting Home Run Derby competition, Saturday, August 29, 12:30-3pm on Clermont Field #4!

Cost: $20 per round pass. Payment can be made via cash or venmo at the Concession Stand on the day of the Tournament, then bring your pass to Field #4 when you’re ready to swing away!

Format & Rules: Each player will be allowed 10 swings at pitches from a team parent or coach (maximum 20 pitches). Points will be awarded based on where each ball touches the ground. Any fair ball landing in the outfield grass will receive 1 point (approx. 120-150ft). Any fair ball landing beyond cone markers placed 25ft beyond the grass line will receive 3 points (approx. 155-175ft). The player accumulating the most points during a single round will be deemed the Derby Champion! In the event of a tie, top scoring players will participate in an additional tiebreaker round governed by the same rules.

Tourney Format & Rules

Every team is guaranteed three games (3GG), playing two pool play games on Saturday, then advancing to the 6-team single elimination tournament on Sunday. Seeding for the single-elimination tournament will be based off record first, followed in order by (1) head-to-head record if between 2 teams who played against each other, (2) runs allowed, (3) run differential, and (4) a coinflip.

Time/Mercy Rules

  • In pool play games, no new inning will be started after 1 hour 30 minutes.  
  • For single elimination games, no new inning will be started after 1 hour 45 minutes.
  • There will be no time limit for the championship game.  
  • Mercy rules will be in effect for all games, including the championship: 15 runs after 3 innings, 12 runs after 4 innings, and 10 runs after 5 innings.
  • Game times and time limits may be adjusted due to weather and field conditions.

Roster Rules

  • Pitchers may not throw more than 75 pitches total in the weekend.
  • If a pitcher throws more than 35 pitches on Saturday, they will not be allowed to pitch on Sunday.
  • For purposes of pitch count, pitchers are allowed to finish the batter they start before the pitch count limits are reached.

Game Rules

  • The bases will be set at 65 ft.
  • Leading off is permitted.
  • Runners can steal any time the ball is live.
  • Stealing home is allowed.
  • Runners must make an attempt to slide if there is a play at any base other than 1st base.  It will be up to the umpire’s discretion to determine if a player posed a safety risk and can be called out.
  • Balks will be called for educational purposes, but no penalty will be assessed.  The umpire will simply inform the pitcher and coach of the infraction and then restart play.
  • Infield fly will be in effect.
  • There will be no dropped 3rd Strike.
  • Bunting is allowed.
  • If not listed above, the umpire will have the final say on any rule interpretation.
